Postpartum Anxiety & Weight Restoration
The postpartum period can be a time of big change — physically, emotionally, and neurologically.
For many women, anxiety becomes part of this chapter. Sometimes it’s obvious and overwhelming. Other times it’s quieter — a constant internal alertness, difficulty switching off, or a sense that the body never quite settles.
Alongside this, appetite and weight can be affected. You may find that you’re eating but not gaining weight, struggling to feel hunger, or feeling disconnected from your body since giving birth.
This experience is far more common than most women are told
When Anxiety Affects Weight After Birth
Anxiety keeps the nervous system in a state of heightened vigilance — often described as fight or flight. When the body remains in this state for too long, it prioritises survival over restoration.
In practical terms, this can mean reduced or inconsistent appetite, digestive discomfort, and difficulty gaining weight, even when weight gain is wanted.
Being advised to “just eat more” can feel frustrating when the body doesn’t feel safe or settled enough to receive nourishment.
There is nothing wrong with you. Your body is responding intelligently to prolonged stress.
A Different Way of Working
Rather than focusing on food or weight directly, my work focuses on regulating the nervous system first.

When anxiety reduces, and the body feels safer, appetite and digestion often naturally begin to re-establish. Weight restoration can then occur without forcing, monitoring, or control.
This approach works with the body rather than against it, supporting balance as it returns at its own pace.
How Hypnotherapy Supports This Process
Hypnotherapy works at a subconscious level, where patterns of anxiety, hyper-alertness, and tension are held.
Sessions are gentle, supportive, and paced to suit you. There is no pressure to analyse symptoms or revisit birth experiences unless it feels appropriate and helpful.

The focus is on helping your system feel safe enough to settle, so the body can begin to rebalance naturally.
A Calm, Individualised Process
Every postpartum experience is different. Some women notice anxiety immediately after birth, while others feel it emerge weeks or months later.

Our work is always tailored to you. Between sessions, you may be offered a personalised audio recording to support continued regulation and reinforce the work gently at home.
